To accompany a future post, I needed a super stellar chocolate syrup. While I am a fan of Hershy’s, I decided to try a homemade version. I adapted this recipe. The result was quite delicious.
If you’ve never tried making a chocolate syrup, I highly recommend you do. It is super easy and takes very little time. It also keeps pretty well in the fridge. I used my leftovers for the next couple of weeks.
The other great thing about it is it is so versatile! You can put it on just about anything and everything. I prefer topping ice cream, waffles, pancakes (any form of bread really), and using it as a dipping sauce. Yum.
Homemade Chocolate Syrup
- 3/4 C water
- 3/4 C sugar
- 1/2 C cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- Whisk all of the ingredients together in a saucepan over low heat until it begins to thicken.
- Take off the heat, and either serve it hot, or put it into a storage container to chill.
