Butternut squash is a type of winter squash that is often used as a filling in baked goods. This recipe combines butternut squash and chocolate to make a sweet treat that is perfect for fall.

The choco butternut cake is a dessert made with butternut squash, coconut flour, eggs, and spices. It is topped with a cinnamon sugar glaze.

Choco Butternut Donuts are now popular in the Philippines. As a result, everyone has their own interpretation. This is my interpretation of the famous doughnut.

Choco Butternut Donuts

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour (all-purpose)
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda (typo error in the video, should be baking soda not baking powder)
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 2/3 cup chocolate powder, unsweetened
  • 1 pound sugar
  • 2 quarts milk
  • two eggs (beaten)
  • 1 teaspoon extract de vanille
  • salted butter, 1/2 cup (melted)

Glaze:

  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • a quarter cup of milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Recipe for Butternut Streusel:

  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • a third cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp orange food coloring
  • 3/4 cup flour (all-purpose)
  • a quarter teaspoon of nutmeg powder
  • a quarter teaspoon of salt

Notes

Turn off the heat once the butter has melted while preparing the butternut streusels. The quantity of orange food color you use is entirely up to you. If you want to make the butternut streusel even more orange, add another teaspoon of food coloring. My portion will have to be reduced since it will be consumed by my children. Again, the baking time will be determined by the specs of your oven. Choco Butternut and Choco Toasted Coconut should not be mistaken. In terms of crumbs/toppings, these are two distinct things.
