Thai Beef Basil Cauliflower Fried ‘Rice’ |

Thai Beef basil Cauliflower is one of my favorite rice-less recipes. The ingredients go together quickly and easily, it’s savory and filling, and the flavors are absolutely yummy. This recipe features my favorite Thai basil, which adds a delightful freshness to the dish. I’ve used plain long-grain brown rice here, but you can substitute any kind of rice you want.

This tastes like fried rice, but without the oil and starch. It’s so easy and quick to make too. This is the perfect dish for when you are craving fried rice, but don’t want to add too many carbs.

A few months ago I first learned of cauliflower rice, and I was absolutely in love. I had a package of frozen cauliflower rice and thought, ‘If I can manage to cook this into ‘rice,’ I’ll be the happiest girl in the world.’ – I put it in the oven, and even before it was completely cooked, I had finished it.. With ground meat and Thai basil, cauliflower fried ‘rice’ becomes a full dinner. The tastes are comparable to those found in the Thai meal Kao Phat Kra Pao, but with less carbohydrates and more nutrients.

Anytime I can make a meal healthy while maintaining its flavor, I’m all for it! This meal is no exception; it has the same flavor as Thai Beef Basil Fried Rice but has less calories, carbohydrates, and nutrients. You should certainly join the cauliflower rice bandwagon if you haven’t already. If you want to cut down on carbohydrates and calories, it’s a great substitute for rice. You could use a food processor to create your own cauliflower rice, but I like the ease of pre-riced cauliflower. It’s available in fresh or frozen form.

Ground beef with basil and cauliflower fried rice

I’ll admit that when I shot this Thai Beef Basil Cauliflower Fried Rice, I didn’t have Thai Basil on hand. I did use Italian basil instead of Thai basil, which you may do if you like, but you won’t get the same genuine ‘Thai’ flavor. If you can get Thai Basil at your local Asian market, that’s fantastic; if not, Italian basil will suffice.

This recipe has similar tastes to my Beef Basil Recipe, but it’s a one-pan dinner prepared with ground beef instead of beef. This Thai Beef Basil Cauliflower Fried Rice reheats nicely, making it a fantastic dinner prep choice as well! This meal doesn’t picture well, but trust me when I say it’s flavorful. You can make an authentic Thai meal that is healthy for you by adjusting the spice level to your liking.

  • Over medium-high heat, add oil to a skillet and sauté the onions, garlic, and chile. Then add the ground beef and cook until it is fully cooked.

  • Turn off the heat and toss in the basil until it is wilted. If necessary, season with salt and pepper.

Notes

If you’re in a hurry and can’t get Thai Basil, use Italian Basil instead. If you’re using frozen cauliflower, warm it in the microwave until it’s room temperature.
