Salad and pasta are both great ways to fill you up and enjoy a tasty meal. However, the two are often seasoned in quite different ways and pairings. This is in part down to the fact that pasta is a far more consistent dish, and in part due to the fact that the world is just full of great salad recipes.

How about a classic German salad recipe? Here I present to you four German salad recipes—all of which are really easy to prepare, in just a few minutes. My favorite is the classic German coleslaw, which goes great with any barbecue grill. Because Lisa is German, we almost always prepare a German salad at home (it’s what she grew up eating). So, even though we relocated to North America, she continues to make these dishes.

German cucumber salad, German potato salad, and German tomato salad are some of the most common kinds of German salads that you may have heard of. You won’t go hungry since each of these salads has a recipe on this list.

There are numerous variations of these salads, as there are with many other dishes. Some Germans prepare cucumber salads with oil and vinegar, while others like to add sour cream.

So there isn’t just one method to prepare the salad, just as there are many different variants for various meals throughout North America!

There are, of course, other German salads that you may not be acquainted with. Growing up, Lisa and her father prepared radish and herring salads on a daily basis. We’ll create them and post them on the website as soon as possible!

Simple German lettuce salads, beet salads, asparagus salads (when in season — asparagus is extremely popular in Germany), and a variety of regional-specific salads are also popular.

This vegan potato salad is made with oil and vinegar rather than mayonnaise and makes a wonderful side dish to a substantial main! It comes from Swabia, a region in southern Germany, although identical dishes may be found all across the nation!
