I used to despise red meat when I was a teenager. No, I was never the vegetarian/vegan adolescent humanitarian, but just a normal fussy eater. We’d have steak on a regular basis since it’s one of my father’s favorite dinners, so I’d have a lot of spinach in the fridge so I could prepare my own supper (yes I was so picky to the point where I pretty much only ate spinach instead of most meats). Thankfully, I outgrew that period and realized I was losing out on a lot of delicious cuisine. I’m very excited to share my Red Wine Sauced New York Strip Steak recipe with you.

  • NY Strip Steak, 2 Pounds
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1 minced shallot
  • Wine (34 cup)
  • 3 tbsp. butter (cold)

 

Instructions

 

  • Allow time for the steak to come to room temperature before seasoning it with salt and pepper.
  • In a cast iron pan over high heat, cook the steak. Cook for 4 minutes each side, with the fat side down in the pan for several minutes to render the fat on the steak’s side.
  • Remove the steak from the pan and turn the heat down to medium.
  • Cook the shallots in the drippings until they are softened and transparent.
  • Bring to a boil with the wine. Cook for 5-8 minutes, or until the liquid has thickened and reduced by half.
  • Whisk in the butter one tablespoon at a time until the sauce is glossy and velvety. Enjoy your steak with this sauce!
