Lasagna Party Ring |
If you’re using the lasagna as an excuse to throw a party, then you’re on the right track. The easiest and most delicious way to serve lasagna is simply by layering it, no fussing and fussing on the recipe necessary, and cooking it all at once. This recipe allows you to do just that. You don’t even have to worry about making your own pasta, or remember to cook it – it’s all done in advance.
I have a confession to make… I lied. I promised to share with you my favorite lasagna recipe but this week I made something completely different. This recipe is unlike any lasagna I have ever made because it is all about the layers. It has a white sauce on the bottom, a red sauce on top, and a layer of ricotta cheese between each layer. (You can also get creative with the vegetables—just use what you have on hand!) This recipe does not have any hidden veggies or cheeses.
You know, when you see the word “party” in a headline like this, you think that you have to host a “party” to get this kind of picture. But, no! You can make this nifty little ring out of really cheap plastic utensils and lasagna noodles and it will look like a party, and it will be a party, and you will be the host, and you will have a party ring.
Here’s what you’ll need!
Servings: 10 — Ring of Lasagna Party Recipe
Lasagna Party Ring
INGREDIENTS
a third of a cup of canola oil 12 onion (diced) 4 garlic cloves, minced 34 pound of beef, lean to fat ratio of 80:20 34 pound ground sweet Italian sausage 1 teaspoon kosher salt 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper Tomato sauce (28 ounces) 15 oz. ricotta cheese 12 cup grated Parmesan cheese 14 cup chopped basil a single egg 18-20 lasagna noodles, cooked 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded 12 cup marinara sauce (serving size)
PREPARATION
1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). 2. Heat the oil, onions, and garlic in a large saucepan over high heat until they begin to brown, stirring periodically. 3. Add the beef, sausage, salt, and pepper, and simmer, breaking up the meat as you stir, until all of the liquid has gone and the meat is beginning to brown on the edges. 4. Stir in the tomato sauce, then lower to a low heat and cook until the sauce has thickened to the point of becoming paste-like. Remove the pan from the heat and put it aside. 5. In a mixing basin, whisk together the ricotta, Parmesan, basil, and egg until smooth. Remove from the equation. 6. Cut 6 lasagna noodles in half with a sharp knife. Between the meat and the cheese combination, they will act as layers. 7. Spray a bundt pan with nonstick cooking spray, then spread out approximately 10-12 noodles in an overlapping pattern in the bottom of the pan. One end of the noodles should be the same height as the center of the pan, while the other end should dangle over the edges. 8. Place half of the mozzarella on top of the noodles in the bottom of the pan. When the noodles are cooked, this will assist to bind them together. 9. To make a noodle layer, spread half of the meat mixture equally in a ring over the mozzarella, then put half of the cut noodle pieces over the top. 10. Spread the ricotta mixture evenly over the noodles in an equal ring, then top with the remaining noodles and meat sauce. 11. Create another overlapping pattern by folding the edges of the lasagna noodles hanging over the sides of the pan back towards the center. 12. Evenly sprinkle the remaining mozzarella on top. 13. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the cheese has become a deep golden brown color. 14. Allow the ring to cool for approximately an hour before gently inverting it onto a cutting board. 15. Remove the ring from the oven and top with any remaining Parmesan and basil. 16. In the middle of the ring, place a small dish filled with marinara for dipping. 17. Put the food on the table!
