Tandoori Chicken is a kind of chicken that is cooked in a clay oven.

Tandoori chicken is a famous Indian chicken dish made by roasting marinated chicken in yogurt and spices in a cylindrical clay oven called a tandoor. The meal is popular across the globe, although it is mostly from the Indian subcontinent.

Preparation of Tandoori Chicken

To begin, the raw chicken pieces are marinated in a yogurt (dahi) and tandoori masala combination, as well as a spice blend (mentioned below). To get the rich red hue, it is seasoned and tinted with Kashmiri red chili powder or red chili powder, cayenne pepper, turmeric, and a little amount of food coloring. The skin is usually removed from the chicken before it is marinated and roasted.

Cooking Techniques for Tandoori Chicken

The marinated chicken is then skewered and grilled over high heat in a tandoor oven, which is fired with wood or charcoal for that incredible smokey taste. This chicken tandoori may also be cooked in a regular oven, on a rotisserie or spit, or over hot charcoal.

How Long Does Tandoori Chicken Take to Cook?

As previously stated, you can cook in the oven instead of on a charcoal grill. Cooking in the oven takes 30-40 minutes at 250-300 degrees C.

Variations on Tandoori Chicken

This recipe may also be used as the foundation for a variety of cream-based curries like butter chicken. Because of the popularity of this meal, many other recipes, such as chicken tikka, which may be seen on Indian restaurant menus, start with yogurt and a citrus-based marinade.

Key Ingredients in Chicken Tandoori

The main ingredients that will change the game for you are Chaat masala, Tandoori Masala, and of course Garam masala (a spice mixture of cinnamon, black peppercorns, cardamom, brown cardamom, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, ground cloves) and, of course, turmeric powder. This dish would not be called “Tandoori Chicken” without this spice.
