Green smoothies are a wonderful way to get some extra nutrients into your diet and are ideal for a quick breakfast or post-workout drink. After a nice workout session, I enjoy an ice cold smoothie, especially during the summer!

How to Make a Green Smoothie

The secret to getting a Bright Green smoothie is to choose fruit that is more neutral in hue.

Because I combine all various types of fruits, the bulk of the smoothies I prepare aren’t the nicest in color. However, it is said that you eat with your eyes, and this vibrant green hue simply screams “Healthy!”

What sort of fruit are you going to use?

Frozen fruit is my preferred option. It saves time, stays fresh in the freezer, and pre-mixed variations are available.

Pineapple, Mango, Peaches, and Strawberries were in the mix I used from Costco. When I want the hue to remain green, I simply leave out the strawberries and reserve them for strawberry banana smoothies.

If you’re going to use fresh fruit, I suggest adding ice to make the smoothie cooler.

What kinds of greens do you have access to?

I used a combination of Baby Kale and Baby Spinach in this dish. I also like using just baby spinach. However, try experimenting with curly kale or even spring mix greens.

I also prefer to freeze my greens before they go bad, and then utilize the frozen greens in smoothies!

What sort of foundation do you have access to?

Unsweetened vanilla almond milk is my smoothie foundation. It has a neutral flavor but adds creaminess to the smoothie. Any unsweetened nut milk will work as well. Because the fruit will offer enough sweetness, I suggest leaving it unsweetened.

Coconut water is another excellent choice. It enhances the tropical flavor and is an excellent electrolyte for rehydrating after a workout or throughout the summer.

You may also simply use normal water.

Smoothie Add-Ins (Optional)

With various add-ins, I prefer to boost the nutritional value of my smoothies. Here are a few of my personal favorites:

Ground Flax Seeds- They provide thickness to the smoothie and have a nutty flavor. Protein, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids are all found in flax seeds.

Chia Seeds- Chia seeds thicken smoothies and will thicken while the smoothie sits, so I suggest drinking it immediately away. Proten, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids are also present.

I also like to add a scoop of collagen peptides to my smoothies. For me, the advantages include less joint discomfort and better hair and nails. Collagen peptides have no flavor and will not alter the smoothness of your smoothie.

If you need the smoothie to be a meal replacement, add 1-2 scoops of vanilla protein powder to increase the calories and make it more satisfying. My favorite is the Orgain brand.

Whole Cashews, Avocado, and Greek Yogurt are all excellent thickeners if you like a thick smoothie.

Creating a Smoothie

For the greatest consistency, I suggest using a high-powered blender, particularly if you’re using frozen fruit.

High-powered blenders now come in a variety of styles and manufacturers.

If the smoothie is too thick, turn off the blender and stir it around to see if it loosens things up. Otherwise, a smidgeon more liquid is required.

Blend at a slower speed at first, then increase as the ingredients are combined.
