Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Salad

One bag of taco seasoning may be substituted for the spices, but our spice mix is much more delicious.

Regarding the Chicken

  • Chicken, 2 pound (907 g)
  • 1 cup tomato sauce or salsa (245 g)
  • 2 tblsp. soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce (30 ml)
  • 1 tsp chili powder (15 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 mL) cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder (5 mL)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (5 mL)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (2.5 ml), or to taste
  • To taste, freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon chipotle powder (2.5 mL) (optional, for spicy flavor)

Salad Ingredients:

  • lettuce, chopped, 6 cups (1.5 l)

Toppings (optional):

  • salsa
  • cheese
  • avocado slices
  • slices of lime
  • sauce with a kick
  • radishes, sliced
  • red onion, diced
  • soured milk
  • In a slow cooker, combine all of the chicken ingredients (chicken, tomato sauce, Worcestershire, chili powder, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, salt & pepper, and optional chipotle powder). Toss in all of the spices to fully include them into the sauce.

  • Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4-5 hours.

  • Remove the chicken parts from the slow cooker and chop them into 1-2 inch pieces before returning them to the slow cooker. Break up the chicken with a couple of forks.

  • Taste the chicken and season it with additional salt if necessary.

  • Top the lettuce with the shredded chicken and your favorite toppings when ready to serve.
