Spicy Shrimp Stir Fry –

When my family and I went camping last week, we got to experience a little taste of the country life. We got to walk for miles through chirping birds, asking them questions about their life and their families. We got to sit by the campfire and listen to the sounds of nature. We got to make hotdogs in the fire, which are truly the best thing since sliced bread. But, the best part of our camping experience was definitely sitting around the table for meal time, sitting in the full view of nature, and eating some of the BEST food I have ever eaten.

Spicy Shrimp Stir Fry Ingredients: 1 lb of shrimp, the largest you can find. 1 tbsp of oil. Bowl of water. Directions: Using a large skillet, heat skillet on medium-high. Add shrimp and stir fry for a couple minutes. Use a spoon to clean out the pan. Turn the heat down to low. Pour bowl of water into skillet, being sure to cover the shrimp. Cover skillet and let simmer. Cook for about 4-5 minutes. Turn off heat and let dish sit for a few minutes. Turn off heat and dish is finished.

It was a refreshing departure from our regular Chicken Stir Fry. Spicy Shrimp Stir Fry is fresh, healthy, fast and delicious. Serve over oriental style noodles or steamed rice for a satisfying meal. |

Instead of rice, we used oriental noodles.

I’m going to suggest you do the same – it was fantastic!

We pay a little more care to noodles than we do to rice since we have a rice cooker that makes the rice cooking procedure a breeze. The additional effort needed for the noodles, however, was well worth it!

The secret to a successful stir fry is to prepare your veggies ahead of time.

It ultimately comes down to “orchestration” and “coordination.”

Everything occurs fast once you start stir frying. There will be no time to slice, dice, or chop.

So, just like on YouTube, have everything ready in advance.

If you’re using fresh broccoli instead of frozen, blanch it first, then slice the onions, mushrooms, and red pepper. Garlic should be minced.

After that, make the marinade. You have time to arrange the table while the shrimp are marinating.

When you’re done with that, it’s time to preheat the skillet and start cooking!

Spicy Shrimp Stir Fry is a fast, simple, and nutritious main dish. Serve with Asian noodle soup or steam rice!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound peeled and cleaned raw shrimp
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil (plus another 2 Tablespoons for stir frying)
  • 4-6 garlic cloves, minced
  • Kikkoman soy sauce, 2 tblsp.
  • 1 tblsp. granulated sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons red pepper, crushed
  • 1-2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tblsp. melted butter
  • 1/2 onion (medium) (sliced thin)
  • 3 cups mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 red pepper, medium (sliced into thin strips)
  • 3 cups fresh or frozen broccoli florets (thawed, if frozen; blanched, if fresh)
  • 3/4 pound Chuka Soba or other Asian noodle (such as ramen noodles)

Note

If using fresh broccoli, I suggest blanching it till crisp-tender in a saucepan of boiling water for 1 or 2 minutes, then draining and plunging into cold water to halt the cooking process.

The marinade recipe was inspired by and modified from How Sweet It Is’ Spicy Parmesan Shrimp Skillet dish.

Enjoy! –

Directions

To begin, marinate the shrimp.
Step 1
Combine the olive oil, garlic, brown sugar, soy sauce, and crushed red pepper in a mixing bowl. While you’re preparing the remainder of the dinner, add the shrimp and marinate for around 15 minutes.
After that, cook the veggies in a stir-fry pan.
Step 2
Heat the olive oil and butter in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat. Cook for a few minutes after adding the onions. Cook for a few minutes after adding the mushrooms. Cook for a few minutes after adding the sliced red peppers. Cook for a few minutes after adding the broccoli.

I typically sprinkle a little soy sauce over all of the vegetables at this stage.

Turn the heat off. Set aside all of the cooked veggies in a large mixing dish (you may want to cover with foil to keep the heat in).

Return the skillet to the stove (you will use it to cook the shrimp).

Begin by bringing the water for the noodles to a boil.
Step 3
Cook your noodles according to the package instructions.

The aim is to “orchestrate” the shrimp and noodles so that they are ready at about the same time. The shrimp will only take around 5 minutes to cook since they cook fast.

When you put the shrimp into the pan, it will depend on how long the noodles take to cook.

Cook the shrimp and put the meal together.
Step 4
Place your skillet over medium-high heat to reheat. Toss in the shrimp and marinate all at once when the time comes. Make careful to turn the shrimp after a few minutes to cook the other side.

I throw the shrimp into the dish with the veggies as soon as they’re done cooking. Then I add the drained noodles to the pan, along with the veggies and shrimp, and mix everything together before serving!
