Chicken and broccoli stir fry is one of our favorite Asian stir fries. Healthy air fryer chicken and broccoli in the air fryer is our new favorite. This low-fat “stir fry” meal is undoubtedly our greatest air fried chicken broccoli dish since it uses so little oil.

It’s a great evening chicken meal if you’re looking for something fast and nutritious. The best part is that it just takes a few minutes to clean up and it’s all done in one vessel. The broccoli becomes crispy thanks to the hot circulating air, and the chicken gets a beautiful crisp sear with very little oil. Broccoli with Chicken in the Air Fryer

15 minutes to prepare

Time allotted: 25 minutes

Because the chicken and broccoli simmer down and shrink, even though the basket seems to be full at first, there will be less volume after everything is done. This recipe does not need preheating the air fryer. Air Frying may be done in two ways: Broccoli will be cooked moderately if the chicken is cooked halfway before adding the vegetables. Another alternative is to air fry everything from the start, which makes the broccoli extremely crispy. Alternatively, you may add the broccoli at any point until it is cooked to your liking. After your first batch, you’ll have a better idea of which technique suits your air fryer and personal preferences.

  • 1 pound (454 g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 1-inch chunks
  • Broccoli, chopped into florets, 1/4-1/2 pound (113-226 g) (1-2 cups)
  • 1/2 medium onion, thickly sliced
  • 3 tblsp olive or grape seed oil (45 ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (2.5 mL)
  • 1 tblsp (15 ml) fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 tsp (15 ml) low-sodium soy sauce (or to taste) (use Tamari for Gluten Free)
  • 1 tblsp rice vinegar (15 ml) (use distilled white vinegar for Gluten Free)
  • sesame oil, 1 teaspoon (5 ml)
  • 10 mL spicy sauce (2 teaspoons) (optional)
  • a half teaspoon of salt, or to taste
  • a pinch of black pepper, to taste
  • Optionally, serve with lemon wedges.

Option 1: Broccoli, cooked as usual

  • To make the marinade, follow these steps: Combine the oil, garlic powder, ginger, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, optional spicy sauce, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl.

  • Put the chicken in a separate bowl. In a separate bowl, combine the broccoli and onions. Divide the marinade between the two bowls and whisk to evenly coat each.

  • Air fry: Place just the chicken in the basket/tray of an air fryer. Air fry for 10 minutes at 380°F/195°C. Combine the broccoli and onions with the chicken in a mixing bowl (make sure to include all the marinade). Continue to Air Fry for another 8-10 minutes at 380°F/195°C, or until the chicken is cooked through. Stir halfway during cooking to ensure that the broccoli is uniformly cooked.

  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice on top if desired.

Option 2: Charred, Crispy Broccoli

  • Combine the chicken, broccoli, and onion in a large mixing basin. Toss the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.

  • Combine oil, garlic powder, ginger, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, optional spicy sauce, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chicken, broccoli, and onions with the marinade. To mix the marinade with the chicken, broccoli, and onions, stir well.

  • To air fry, place the items in the air fryer basket or tray. Air fry for 16-20 minutes at 380°F/195°C, stirring and lightly tossing midway through. Toss everything to ensure that everything cooks evenly. Check to see whether the chicken is fully done. Cook for a further 3-5 minutes if necessary.

  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve heated with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice on top.

  • Air fryers with a capacity of 3-4 quarts were used to prepare the recipes. If you use a bigger air fryer, the recipe may cook faster, thus adjust the frying time accordingly. 
  • This recipe does not need preheating the air fryer. 
  • Set a timer to shake, flip, or toss the food as instructed in the recipe.
